Leave a
lasting legacy through the commemorative tree program
It's Arbor Week
in Broken Arrow— a time to recognize the benefits trees provide
residents and future generations!
Broken Arrow is a 23-year Tree City USA member and has achieved National
Certification from the Arbor Day Foundation and recognition from the
Oklahoma Forestry Service and the Oklahoma Community Forest Council.
Residents who want to leave a legacy beyond Arbor Week can participate
in the City's Commemorative
Tree Program. It's a way for family, friends,
businesses, churches, and civic organizations to donate trees for
planting in one of the City's 41 parks covering 800 acres of public
land.
Donors may request the park and type of tree, such as shade, flowering,
or evergreen. The kind of tree/shrub selected will be from a list of
Oklahoma hardy species, including Lacebark Elm, Redbud, Crepe Myrtle,
Oregon or Bosnian Pine, Chinese Pistache, Shumard Oak, Water Oak, Bald
Cypress, American Holly, Trident Maple, and Shantung Maple.
The donor will receive their tree location information, and a donor's
plaque will be placed next to the tree. A commemorative tree donation is
$225, with additional trees ordered at the same time available for $200
each. The City's Parks Department will plant and maintain the tree for
three years.
The City will plant Commemorative Trees ordered between Jan. 1 and June
30 in the fall and those ordered between July 1 and Dec. 31 in the
spring. For more information, go to Commemorative
Tree Program.

You'd Never Guess That Oklahoma Has
More Man-Made Lakes Than Any Other
State |
Tucked within the Great Plains, Oklahoma is a state that often
surprises with its natural beauty.
While it may not boast the coastline
or massive natural lakes of some
other states, what it lacks in size
it more than makes up for in
quantity. You'd be amazed to
discover that Oklahoma is home to
more man-made lakes than any other
state in the US. |

Don't clog with the
F.R.O.G.s
With the holiday
weekend approaching,
you don’t want your
kitchen sink to
croak, so don’t put
your F.R.O.G.s down
the drain.
That’s right,
F.R.O.G.s (fats,
rags, oil, and
grease) are
notorious
obstructionists in
sewer lines and
wastewater pump
stations.
When these culprits
clog the sewer
lines, wastewater
finds the path of
least resistance. It
can blow back into
your sink or
bathtub, creating
unsanitary
conditions in your
home and costing you
thousands of dollars
to clean up.
When rags, also
known as “flushable
wipes,” fats, oil,
and grease enter the
system through a
kitchen sink or
toilet, they are
trouble for the
sewer system.
These wipes wrap
around the intricate
parts of the City’s
pump stations,
causing them to shut
down. City employees
remove enormous
amounts of wipes by
hand every week to
get the system up
and running again.
Sewer obstructions,
such as these, clog
the pump stations
that carry
wastewater to the
City’s wastewater
treatment plant.
When wastewater
comes out of a pump
station or a
manhole, it gets
into our rivers,
streams, and ponds
and can lead to
illnesses for people
and animals and harm
plant life. Please
keep fats, rags,
oil, and grease (F.R.O.G.)
out of the sewer
system.
When in doubt, throw
it out in the trash,
do not flush it down
the sink or toilet.
Here are other
non-flushable,
non-drainable items
to avoid putting
down your sewer
system:
Click this link to
see what to NOT
flush down the
Toilet
yes! it is a
safe link!!
-
ts. Dairy
products such as
milk, cheese,
butter, and used
oil or grease.
Grease
solidifies when
it gets cold and
will adhere to
pipes.
-
Cotton Swabs do
not dissolve.
They clump
together and
cause blockages
in the system.
-
Paper towels. These
are also
clogging
culprits. They
do not dissolve
and will clog
your pipes.
-
Dental Floss. Acts
as a net
catching other
objects and
debris in the
flow.
-
Tissues. Though
they are
similar, toilet
paper and
tissues are not
the same.
Tissues do not
dissolve in
water.
-
Face masks,
feminine
products, and
condoms.
These items will
not flush and
will cause drain
and sewer system
blockages.
So please don't clog
with the F.R.O.G
(fats, rags, oil,
and grease). Keep
them out of the
sewer system to
prevent harm to your
home, the sewer
system, and the
environment by
throwing them away
in the garbage.

AIR-PURIFYING HOUSE PLANTS
The following article on the most colorful and best-smelling house
plants is reprinted from www.houselogic.com, an
informational website sponsored by the National Association of Realtors.
Most air-purifying house plants put out their own sweet smell while
removing the nasty ones that make your nose curl.
But just to clarify, while NASA confirms these plants do
tackle toxins, they are not a cure-all for our home here on earth.
They will remove some toxins, but since our homes are not airtight
(unlike NASA’s place abodes),
they can’t remove everything because the air is constantly changing.
But don’t let that put you off. These air-purifying plants can make
a difference in your home with their sweet scents. Here are a few to get
you started
·
Jasmine has a sweet odor that can calm you
·
Lavender is great at making you sleepy
·
Rosemary can help you focus and work smarter
·
Sharry Baby Orchid smells like chocolate. Delicious!
·
Mother-in-law Tongue turns carbon monoxide into oxygen
·
Devils Ivy (pothos) can cleanse air of toxic fumes
·
Mums tack on of the toughest toxins: cigarette smoke
·
Peace
Lily can reduce annoying, new odors from upholstery and carpet

NATIONAL MARKET UPDATE |
|
|
The Mortgage Bankers Association reports
demand for purchase loans was up 6% compared
to the week before. Requests to refinance
rocketed up 53% for the week
and are now 17% ahead of a year ago.
Realtor.com revealed
that
active listings moved up in December by
nearly 5% year-over-year. They said the pickup could be attributed to
the continuing climb in new listings, which
are now up more than 9% annually.
A national online real estate database found
the median mortgage payment in December was
nearly $400 lower than its October peak.
Buyer demand came in 10% ahead of November,
at the highest level since August. |
|
|
REVIEW OF LAST
WEEK |
|
|
BACK TO WINNING... Stocks chalked up their
tenth week of gains in 11 weeks,
despite a relatively soft start to earnings
season and a hotter than expected inflation
report, but traders took it all in stride.
The December Consumer Price Index (CPI) came
in a bit hotter than expected,
but after taking out volatile food and
energy prices,
Core CPI fell to its lowest reading in two
and a half years.
The Producer Price Index reported the second
straight month of declining wholesale
prices, leading traders to believe
inflation isn’t likely to re-accelerate.
Hopes for a soft landing stayed alive with
low weekly jobless claims.
The week ended with the Dow UP 0.3%, to
37,593; the S&P 500 UP 1.8%, to 4,784; and
the Nasdaq UP 3.1%, to 14,973.
Bond prices slid a tick overall, though the
30-Year UMBS 5.5% finished UP 0.83, at
$100.11.
For the second straight week, the national
average 30-year fixed mortgage rate didn't
move materially in Freddie Mac's Primary
Mortgage Market Survey. Remember, mortgage
rates can be extremely volatile, so check
with your mortgage professional for
up-to-the-minute information.
DID YOU KNOW… The
CoreLogic
Home Price Index was up 5.2% year-over-year
in November, the fifth straight month of
annual gains. Their Chief
Economist noted, “This continued
strength…speaks to the pent-up demand.” |
|
|
THIS WEEK'S FORECAST |
|
|
HOME BUILDING, EXISTING HOME SALES, RETAIL
SALES...
Not surprisingly, December Housing
Starts are expected to fall
off a bit due to the holidays. But
Building Permits are
forecast up, as builders remain in ramp-up
mode. Analysts predict
Existing Home Sales will
slip a tad in December, while
Retail Sales head up thanks
to holiday shopping. |

Broken Arrow Police Department Newsletter - September 2022
Crime Prevention tips to keep you safe |

Auto Thefts on the rise
Broken Arrow Police Department is seeing an increase in auto thefts this year. This is not involving vehicle burglaries, but actual thefts of a vehicle.
Since January, officers have investigated 174 stolen vehicles, the majority of which are trucks. Of those stolen trucks, officers are investigating more thefts of American made trucks than foreign made trucks. Plus, trucks built before 2018 are being stolen more than trucks built after 2018.
The attached graphs show which trucks have been stolen the most this year in Broken Arrow and what years a majority of the stolen vehicles were built. Many of the stolen vehicles are unlocked with the keys left inside.
Please LOCK your cars at night, park them in well-lit areas, submit doorbell videos or security camera footage of thefts to the police department when available, and call the non-emergency phone number when necessary. That number is (918)-259-8400.
If your neighborhood would like to have Broken Arrow Police Department speak at an upcoming neighborhood meeting about crime prevention, please email CrimePrevention@BrokenArrowOK.Gov.
New Orleans and Elm intersection enforcement
Broken Arrow Police Department recently conducted a directed enforcement operation at the intersection of New Orleans and Elm based on complaints from citizens and officers recognizing the need for focused enforcement. In just over 4 hours, officers made 47 stops and issued 54 citations.
All of the violations were observed within the construction zone. Primarily the violations were speeding, left turn violations, and running the red light. Manpower for the operation was funded through a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.
Please pay attention to the signs posted at this intersection and drive safe while the construction on the intersection continues.

remove them from the driveway and park them "Behind the

below is the paragraph referred to in the Covenants
of Turtle Creek
J. Automobiles, Boats
and Trailers. Except as expressly hereinafter provided, no
lot or parcel shall be used as a parking, display or accommodation
area for any type of motor vehicle, boat, trailer, camper or motor-driven cycle. The
purpose of parking, display or accommodation area is to store or to perform any activity
thereon such as, but not limited to maintenance, repair, rebuilding, dismantling,
repainting, servicing of any kind, or storage, except as hereinafter provided. Such storage or
activities may be performed within completely enclosed garages or other structures
located on the lot which screen the sight and sound of the activities from the street and
from adjoining property in such a manner so as to have the storage or activity out of the
public view. The foregoing restriction shall not be deemed to prevent the washing or
polishing of such motor of such motor vehicles, boats, trailers, campers, or motor-driven
cycles, together with those activities normally incident or necessary to such washing
and polishing. No boat, trailer, camper, truck or commercial vehicles shall be parked at any
time on or in front of any lot in an area visible from neighboring lots or any public street,
except as such parking is necessary to make commercial deliveries. All such motor
vehicles, boats, trailers, campers, or motor-driven cycles which are stored or parked
on any lot or parcel and which are not stored or parked in completely enclosed garage
or other structure may be stored or parked on a side lot area and screened from public
view by a fence and located on a concrete surface; provided however, in no event shall
such storage or parking be beyond the front building line of the said lot or parcel.
NOTE:
This should not even be a point to raise
It is just common sense, these Covenants were voted on
and Approved by a huge majority of 87% of the homeowners here in
Turtle Creek in 2000. The City of Broken Arrow
adopted just about the same language in their city code.
It is up to us to keep Turtle Creek and Broken Arrow beautiful.
A boat, a trailer, a dead car or truck, an RV has a special place, but it is not the driveway or the side yard or
backyard of your home here in Turtle Creek.
If you don't agree with these Covenants, please consider moving
to another area that is more acceptable to your type of life style.
Without Regrets Art Jiles

Systems REVIEWS
(updated 10-15-2018)
Personal Note
After a recent
break-in here in Turtle Creek, especially just 2 doors north of me, I
purchased a 4 Camera, 1080P, Modem, wireless System. The views are extremely sharp, clear and in color. You can access the system via
your Smart Phone, You are notified every time there is motion detected
by the Camera(s). You can subscribe to their services or simply
monitor the activity through your phone, lap top, desk top or iPad or
other devices.
I purchased the
system at Best Buy for about $775.00 and paid $125.00 to have someone
install and show me how it works. (well worth it the first time around) They work on their own Battery System and they are rechargeable BUT I
strong suggest that you have the System hard wired (plug into electric
outlets) This avoids trips up the ladder to take down and recharge the Battery.
I did buy an extra Battery just to have it ready when the ONLY one that
I have on a battery dies, this takes about 3 months depending on the amount of
activity the camera senses. The more it sees, the faster the
battery dies. Those over the garage pickup motion south bound, north bound and in the driveway. The
other is located towards the backyard where is watching the side garage
door.
I like it and would
recommend it strongly. It is NOT the answer to prevent but rather
to catch those that are up to no good or to just see who pulled up into the driveway. Next time you walk by the house, look way up over the garage.
You are being watched and you just tripped the motion detector
